About me
Samantha Kehl: Legal Aid Attorney by Day, Chaos Wrangler by Night
Samantha Kehl has been practicing bankruptcy law since 2008, and currently serves as Staff Attorney and Bankruptcy Practice Team Leader at Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas (LANWT), where she also works on a veterans grant helping veterans and their families. When she's not in court untangling financial complexities, she's at home negotiating peace treaties between her newly-minted tween (5th grade!), her kindergartener (when did that happen!), two energetic puppies, a treat-demanding schnauzer, a judgmental bearded dragon, and her latest addition – a Golden Legged tarantula the size of her fist.
After years of mastering financial reorganization in her previous private practice in Waco, TX, Samantha now applies that same skill to budgeting for camping gear, puppy chow, painting supplies, and tarantula habitats. At LANWT, she combines her bankruptcy expertise with a passion for helping underserved communities access justice.
Earlier in 2025, Samantha celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary to her patient and understanding husband – a milestone that speaks to his remarkable tolerance for an ever-expanding menagerie. Samantha has transformed her spare bedroom into a painting studio where she creates artwork that her family receives as Christmas gifts (and can't politely refuse). Since the last Poverty Law Conference, her family has explored 4 new states, 4 more national parks, and 2 additional countries. Later this year, she'll speak at the 34th annual Consumer Rights Litigation Conference in DC on bankruptcy law and access to justice for consumer rights clients.
